Reign (2013–2017)
“Reign” (2013–2017) is a historical drama television series that aired on The CW. Created by Laurie McCarthy and Stephanie Sengupta, the show focuses on the early life of Mary, Queen of Scots, and explores the complexities of her rise to power and her personal and political struggles.
The series stars Adelaide Kane as Mary, Queen of Scots, and also features Toby Regbo as Francis II, King of France, Megan Follows as Catherine de’ Medici, and Celina Sinden as Greer. The show is set in the 16th century and follows Mary as she returns to the French court after being sent there as a young girl for safety.
“Reign” dramatizes Mary’s life as she navigates the treacherous politics of the French court, contends with courtly intrigues, and deals with her own romantic entanglements. The series also explores her relationships with historical figures such as Francis II, her cousin Elizabeth I, and other key figures of the era.
