John Carter (2012)
John Carter (2012) is a science fiction adventure film based on Edgar Rice Burroughs’ novel A Princess of Mars. The story follows John Carter, a former Confederate soldier in 19th-century America, who is mysteriously transported to Mars, known as Barsoom to its inhabitants.
On Barsoom, Carter discovers he possesses extraordinary strength and agility due to the planet’s lower gravity. He becomes embroiled in a conflict between various Martian factions, including the humanoid Red Martians, the warlike Green Martians (Tharks), and the city-states of Helium and Zodanga.
Carter meets Dejah Thoris, the Princess of Helium, who is seeking a way to save her city from destruction. Reluctantly at first, Carter becomes her ally and ultimately takes a stand to bring peace to Barsoom. Along the way, he learns about the mysterious Therns, godlike beings manipulating the planet’s events.
The film blends epic battles, romance, and themes of redemption as Carter finds a new purpose in fighting for a world on the brink of collapse.
